Google Form Use

.....I have created an interest survey to help with grouping students appropriately for a final project in their Mythology unit. The project itself will involve research, creating and saving files and images, using graphic (and possibly audio) editors, and creating a PowerPoint digital story to relate the events relating to a specific myth. They will also offer a hypothesis on how that myth has influenced our culture and participate in post-project assessments. Because of the amount of cooperative efforts needed to successfully complete this project, I need specific information from each student.

.....To begin the project, I need to know which skills students are bringing into the project (what they remember from other lessons), types of groupings they are most comfortable with, and which topics most interest them. This interest survey will provide the needed information to do this responsibly.

Google Forms (Reflection)

.....I have had opportunity to use several different tools to create surveys: Survey Monkey, Blended Schools, and Google. I liked the flexibility of Survey Monkey's styles, however, if I remember correctly, the free version limits the number of questions you can ask. I like creating with Blended Schools (BSN) the most because of the variety of question types and it can be used for regular assessments. The downside to BSN is that you have to have an account, which costs big bucks. Though Google Docs are not as easy to use as MicroSoft products, the forms tool does serve its purpose and you can invite anyone you choose, as long as they have an email. Our students (at the elementary level anyway) are not permitted to hold school email accounts. This would be a hindrance, but there are ways around it. For instance, if the survey includes typing in your student name they could use the teacher's email (but the teacher would need to type their password in for everyone). Overall, Google is probably the best form tool to use because it may be accessed by anyone freely.
